ANDRE : interview behind the streets
"A city without graffiti is a dead city... it’s a sign that nothing happens there graffiti on the walls is a sign of good health..."
BKRW.COM and SPRAY MAGAZINE joined their forces for the last issue of the french printed magazine about high-end preppy fashion. The main idea of the collab was to do a big article about the future of the street-art.
While SPRAY logically opted for a paper medium, BKRW flew threw a multimedia configuration. All interviews were used to feed the pages of the magazine but also to feed BKRW TV. We've met many people from street culture and graffiti.
First, here is an exclusive video interview of ANDRÉ, globe-trotter street-artist and now hype bar and hotels entrepreneur.
It seemed interesting to talk with him about GRAFFITI, and especially his feelings on his impression about that art . A discussion in the midst of a photo shoot for a portrait of SPRAY and just a few hours before the opening of his new parisian bar Le Montana. Not the perfect quiet moment, but anyway we've got some great interesting answers, and nice images.
An interview and a photo shooting backstage covering for the same price ... Que demande le peuple?
Here is the text interview of ANDRE that you can find right HERE or THERE in video :
"First came the return of graffiti.. At the beginning of the 90’s people took a lot of interest in graffiti and after that period graffiti sort of fell back into the underground.
"The 90’s were actually a really good period for graffiti nobody was doing it anymore... So there was plenty of free wall space for those that were still active...

"Then at the end of the 90’s and the early 2000’s graffiti came back to the limelight
"Speaking about the TAG exhibition at the Grand Palais.. Well...
I don’t really know how good it’s going to be…But it’s not really going to be graffiti what’s rather amusing is that he (Alain de Gallizia, the exhibition curator) has brought together a lot of different names... As if this exhibition were a collection of signatures... But it’s not really an exhibition on graffiti

"Graffiti takes place outside, illegally
"Graffiti is more about the action than its result... The result represents maybe 20% and the action, the adrenaline, the whole process of painting a wall, a train carpainting or bombing a tag or an entire fresco is more important...
"The act of doing graffiti is what counts most to me...
"I love the fact that graffiti still exists, still alive... And that people are still out there painting and drawing in the streets for the fame and glory or just for fun
"I always enjoy seeing drawings or writing on the walls it’s a way of letting the city breathe...
