BKRW x 2 years old x V 2.0

Nothing new, but the feeling that all this is not only consumption but a real culture, with codes, referrals and references.

Two years - 770 days.

Today is BKRW’s second birthday.

2 years, quite a long time period, but at the same time it feels like time has flown. Since the beginning of BKRW we’ve had the opportunity to witness the birth of online wear (on a day to day basis) and we’re currently taking part in the beginning of its end (marketing-wise). We know and feel that things have changed. Nothing will be the same again.

Now we don’t want to sound like grumpy old men talking about how things used to be better than they are now, but we miss it. The atmosphere, the energy, the enthusiasm, the dreams and the willingness to obtain what we wanted… The harsh commercial reality has already started to eat up our utopias and our most rebel desires.

But you can’t stay a rookie forever. So all these new players have moved on. And BKRW has moved forward with them.

BKRW is the result of a need – the need to see street culture and its market approached in a different manner. We wanted more than just simple blog entries and short news snippets. We wanted to analyse street culture as a journalist would, we wanted to break it down, to expose the way it works, to meet people and creators, to talk to those who were making it or had contributed to making it. We didn’t invent anything, we were just repeating what we had already done for other magazines before, simply applying the basic rules of journalism.

Photo shoots, video interviews, biographies…Nothing new under the sun but just this gut feeling that our world isn’t only about consumerism: it’s a real culture, with its codes, its originators and its references.

Today we launch our new website, it’s the best way for us to correct any mistake we might have done on the first version. There will be more info on the homepage, the content of the website has been redesigned (graphically speaking a simple news info can’t be treated the same way as a photo shoot) so it should be much easier to browse and read (bigger pics, more titles, quotes and a couple extra bonus goodies such as our own video player and new sections: streetlook and fly&food).

We still thrive off this need we have to constantly move forward. It’s still rooted deep inside us, although it’s a little disillusioned. We carry our wrinkles and war wounds as medals of honour, as reminders to never make the same mistakes twice.

The next couple of months should be considered as a test period as we’ll be tweaking an adjusting things pretty much daily, but normally everything should be up and running any time soon (now ?). A huge thank you to all those who have backed us since day one and a special shout-out to all those who still haven’t understood that all the time spent looking at others move forward is time you don’t spend growing yourself.
